Drogheda are only two points ahead of last placed Limerick and badly needs 3 points tonight in their battle to avoid relegation. But Drogheda have been very poor and won just three league games at home this season. Their last home win came against Galway five months ago. Drogheda have scored only 29 goals in 31 league games this season, making them the second lowest scorers in the division – only Bray have scored fewer goals. Tonight they will be without their top scorer Lee Duffy and regular midfielder Robert O’Reilly as they’re both suspended.
Longford meanwhile have nearly full team available with only long term injured Pat Flynn and Don Cowan still out. They sit in 7th place, 5 points ahead of Drogheda and need just one more point to mathematically avoid relegation play off. Longford have showed some good form lately, they beat 3-2 Cork away last week, drew 1-1 at home to Sligo and lost 3-0 to Pats at home before that, but even in those games they created very good chances and should’ve won some more points.
Drogheda have looked vulnerable at the back and conceded at least a goal in every home game but one this season and I can see Longford taking advantage.
