Galway Utd take on St Patrick's Athletic in the EA Sports Cup final today and I believe we’ll see an entertaining game and hopefully more than two goals. There’s a real buzz about the game in Galway city and county and a large crowd is expected
Galway have won just one of their last eight league games, but they struggled with injuries and suspensions over the last two months or so. Some of their key players have finally returned to full fitness two weeks ago when they managed to beat Longford Town 4-2 at home. Tonight, however they will be without two regular defenders Alex Byrne and Mark Ludden trough injury and suspension respectively. On the other end their most creative midfielder Ryan Connolly has recovered after long injury and played against Longford when they easily scored four goals.
At the same time St. Pats will be without few regular defenders as well. Goalkeeper Brendan Clarke will be out trough injury while Ian Bermingham is suspended. Shane McEleney is cup-tied for the game. On the plus side their top scorer in the last couple of seasons Christy Fagan will be available after injury that kept him out of the team for more than two months.
Two teams have already met twice this season and Pats easily won both 3-1 and 4-1. I wouldn’t expect anything similar tonight and I think this will be much closer affair. But with defensive problems in both teams I hope there’ll be some goals in both nets.
