Sligo Rovers welcome Finn Harps tonight, hoping to improve on their league record which has seen them earn just one point from a possible nine, finding the net on only one occasion. They drew 1-1 at home to Galway on Monday night, but they were very lucky to take one point as Galway had much better chances. On the other side they struggled to create clear goal chances themselves and their only goal was keeper’s mistake. Sligo are completely new squad comparing to last season and they played with nine debutants in their first league game against Shamrock Rovers at home two weeks ago. They are still very much a work in progress and they’ll need few more games to gel, I think. Striker Philip Roberts is suspended due to a red card in their last League game.
Having gained promotion last season after 8 long years, Harps started their season with a 2-1 home win over Derry City. In their next two games however they suffered two defeats, 0-3 against champions Dundalk away and then they went down to a single Shamrock Rovers goal on Monday night at home. They defended very well in that game and Rovers scored their only goal from the penalty. Harps have a small squad and they’ll probably fight to avoid relegation this season, but they’re well organized at the back and very difficult to break down. Last season they conceded just 23 goals in 28 league games. In their first three games this season they’ve already conceded 5 goals, but they faced strong teams that are top of the table at the moment.
Odds moved too much in Sligo’s favor in the last few hours and 2.19 on Harps not to lose surly represents some value, I think.
