Sligo have won just two points after five games played and although it’s still early they’re already under pressure to start picking up some more points asap. Sligo have brought in many new players this season and they’re still searching their best eleven, but in terms of quality they’re definitely top five side. They were a bit unlucky not to win some matches as they were better team and dominated games against Cork, Drogheda and Derry City. One of their most creative midfielders John Russell missed their last three games due to personal reasons, but tonight he’ll be back and Sligo will definitely look much stronger. In a game against Drogheda that Sligo lost 3-2 in the second round, he assisted to both Sligo’s goals.
Bray are mess at the moment. Their manager has resigned couple of days ago and players are unpaid since the beginning of the season. Their two key midfielders Cassidy and Kelly are out through injury and suspension. Bray still haven’t scored a single goal in five games. They’ve appointed their U-19’s manager as caretaker first team coach and it remains to be seen if he can change the things around. He said that first thing they have to do is to start scoring some goals. So although he didn’t specifically say it, I think we can expect more offensive formation tonight. With Sligo still without long term injured first choice goalkeeper and central defender Henderson perhaps they may score their first goal.
Sligo have extremely positive record against Bray, as Bray have taken just one point from their last 14 visits to Sligo, it came from a 1-1 draw in July 2012. Bray’s last away win against Sligo came in 2002. All in all, Sligo are much better side and anything but a convincing home win would be a big surprise, I think.
