2010-09-02 Melzer(-5) - Berankis(+5) by: latso (02-09-2010 14:06 CET) Discuss this pick in the Bettingadvice forum After an incredible clay season, Melzi had a rocky landing on the hard courts, losing to Polansky in the States, but that's often the case after a long dirty period and normally the swicth happens during the GSs.
The Austrian had his moment of struggle to get past Tursunov in the first round, but the latter is an extremely dangerous player on his day and has enough experience to make it a match against a very uncomfortable player like Melzer.
Experience is the thing missing in young Berankis' arsenal and against such kind of player, who can push you back behind with his s&v tennis, but also with his flat baseline shots, or his adv. left hand serve, the youngster is doomed to struggle.
I expect the match to start rather closely but ending with a difference, once the favorite has smth in hands, like a set or two.
Could be anything, you never know in tennis, but this one looks like starting tight and finishing loose, smth like 7-6 6-4 6-1 for example.
In any case, the 15th ranked in ATP against the 124th, even though the class difference ain't That big, there still is some and the fact they never played so far is a huge advantage for the Austrian experienced fighter.
GL Pick: H, Odds: 2.04, Stake: 7, Bookmaker: SBO

2010-09-02 Cilic - Nishikori by: latso (02-09-2010 14:42 CET) Discuss this pick in the Bettingadvice forum From a GS winner prospect last year to equaly priced with the 137th in the world? Damn, the moods in tennis odds are shifting so fast it's incredible.
Ok, Kei is worth a top 50 place and Marin's actual level isn't of the 13th in the world, rather the 25th and still a differenc exists.
The Croatian had the bad luck to play two of the most in form players before the USO - Bagdatis and Troicki, lost to both. Before that he played the semis in Washington and lost to the third most in form right now - Nalbadnian.
But where is Kei Nishikori in this equasion? Nowhere actually.
The young Japanese talent has the game to bother an erratic lately Cilic but he can't be expected to do this every second match. Sometimes, once in 3 perhaps yes, but pricing Cilic 1.91 instead of the logical 1.50 is a mistake from the bookies i believe.
To be honest i checked this match because i was thinking to give Kei a try at 3.50 or similar...and then i saw 2.14 0_0
We never know who will win, we just try to take the price that gives us an edge, so i was going to take Nishikori at better odds, i expect him to give a hard time to Marin and i wouldn't be too sad if the Japanese does it, because i like this player, he's fast and has awesome groundstrokes, especially on hard, but he can't be equally priced as Cilic, so i'd rather take the favorite at this price.
That's what betting is all about imo. Sometimes going against your feelling because of the price.
7 units as usual. GL Pick: H, Odds: 1.91, Stake: 7, Bookmaker: Paddy Power

2010-09-03 England(-1)AH - Bulgaria(+1)AH by: latso (02-09-2010 13:34 CET) Discuss this pick in the Bettingadvice forum The Euro 2012 qualies in group G start with this very interesting match, with two of the favorites clashing in England.
The hosts have been disapointing for quite a while and this imo is mainly due to the fact that the team has no classy forards, if we exclude Rooney from the equasion.
The latter has been struggling with injuries, viruses, etc. and barely played a couple of matches so far this season, dragging the bad form from the WC finals into Premiership.
After his brilliant last season, the lad is in somekind of hole and just can't deliver.
Rooney apart, England has no quality upfront and this has been very visible in South America, as well as in the friendly against Hungray, in which the usual saviour Gerard had to save the hosts from a catastrophic result once again.
The team also has problems with inuries that took two of the best players in the team out - Lampard and Terry!
Problems in each line and obvious ones, including the fragile GK position, where the pressure is extremely high.
Bulgaria on the other side surprised with some neat football away in Russia, where the team has been controlling most of the match, though failing to create enough oportunities and allowing a funny goal in the 6th minute due to a bad GK mistake, smth unusual for the young Mihailov who's kept Twente's net clean for 4 consecutive matches in Holland.
The small number of scoring chances in StPetersburg made the coach of Bulgaria consider starting with Domovchiiski instead of Bojinov as the youngster from Herta seems in good form and has already 3 official matches under the belt with 2 goals scored for his German employer.
Bojinov with only one match (though with a goal as well for Parma) is about to start from the bench together with Mitsansky, the new recruitment of Kaiserslautern.
Popov is suposed to start right behind Domovchiiski and suport him in attack, and this duo seems quite interesting, as both are fast and skillful, which is the perfect et of qualities when the team is suposed to play counters, away to a favorite.
England is of course the favorite. They lack some players, they have some problems but they still have very classy wingers, extremely fast Lennon and Young, so with a good "Rooney day", the hosts are predisposed to clinch a victory in this one, though it takes a much better display than what they've shown so far.
The Bulgarian defense is a liability, just as the English one at first sight.
Ivanov and Stoyanov have played just one match together and they looked very solid, though they haven't been under enough pressure by a team of Russia almost clearly happy with their 1-0 taken from the very beggining of the match.
Manolev and Milanov (right and left backs) are fast players but they are doomed to have problems with England's fast wingers, though it will depend very much on the covering from the midfielders, who both are quite solid in this part of the game.
S.Petrov and S.Angelov are probably going to start in the midfield with Peev on right side and Martin Petrov on the left.
Overall the BG team looks very solid in my eyes, follwing a surprisingly tight and organised match in Russia, with the little corrections now, against a shaky giant missing some key players and being in quite bad form, i see a possible surprise happening.
Bulgaria has been successful the latest years against the same oponent. I remember a 0-0 in the UK and 1-1 in BG in another Euro qualifier and this is very possible to happen again, but why not even an away win? It will depend very much on who will score first and i don't rate a 0-1 happening first, out of the equasion.
So, Bulgaria +1 AH and 2 units on the straight away win with huge odds are my calls for this interesting match.
